Welcome to the United States!
PPR International takes pride in providing you with first class care upon your arrival in the United States. A Transition Specialist from PPR will greet you at the airport and welcome you to what will become known to you as home. This person will be your guide, chauffeur and confidant as you become accustomed to the American standard of living. Social Security Number: In the United States, a Social Security number (SSN) is a number issued to citizens, permanent residents, and temporary (working) residents. It is issued to an individual by the Social Security Administration of the government of the United States. The primary purpose is tracking working individuals for taxation purposes and to track Social Security benefits, but it is also used for other purposes, such as getting a telephone, driver license or cell phone. The PPR Transition Specialist will take you to the nearest Social Security office so you can apply for your social security number as soon as possible (usually the second day after your arrival).
Utilities: Once we have secured an apartment for you, telephone, cable, electric and water services will need to be established in your name. The PPR Transition Specialist is well versed in this process and will assist you in accomplishing these tasks.
Bank Account: While there are many banks to choose from in the United States, PPR International will take you to a bank deemed to have outstanding customer service to set up an account for you. PPR International recommends you establish a checking account and a savings account. The checking account can be used for the convenience of direct depositing your paycheck with a portion of your check going to your savings account, if you so desire.
Department of Motor Vehicles: If you have an international driver license upon your entry into the United States you will be allowed to drive but only for as long as the law permits in the state you are residing. Each state has its own requirements. After you have settled into your new surroundings, you must apply and fulfill the requirements for a driver license in that state.
Grocery and Household Shopping: Once you’re settled into your new home, you’ll need to fill your refrigerator and pantry. The PPR Transition Specialist will escort you to a nearby grocery store that offers a wide variety of products. You will find dairy, meat, perishable and non-perishable items all in one store. These stores accept American currency and travelers cheques (with photo identification). Food isn’t the only necessity. When you’re setting up your new home there will be a variety of common household items you will want to purchase, for example, electronics (television, alarm clock, telephone), linens (sheets and towels), vacuum cleaner and kitchen items (pots and pans and appliances). You will find all of these items under the same roof at one of America's’ familiar stores like Wal-Mart, Target or K-mart. These chain stores are noted for providing quality items at a reasonable price. PPR International knows there are going to be things that you will miss from your country so our PPR Transition Specialist will locate a world market that offers some of your favorites from your own country.
